Liam Payne arrives in Australia ahead of his performance for the world’s richest turf race – The Everest – and hints at performing new material

The former One Direction singer is the latest big-name musician to head to an Australian race meet as a big-ticket item aimed at pulling in new crowds.

For these newbies to the racing game, the horses are an added bonus on their big day out.

Last year, award-winning US R’n’B artist Jason Derulo sent Randwick into hysteria performing at the inaugural Everest.

Payne himself will make his first appearance at a racetrack when he is the headliner in Sydney on Saturday — and he even hinted to The Daily Telegraph that he might unveil some new material for Randwick fans on October 13.

Payne told The Daily Telegraph: “I’m a big fan of horse racing and to be performing at The TAB Everest is very exciting. I can’t wait to get down to Australia for it.

“I’ve never had the chance to go (to a racetrack) before, so I’m excited to go to my first real track in Australia.

“I enjoy watching the horses on the TV and am very interested in racehorses.”

The 25-year-old Brit will perform an exclusive 45-minute set after the races have concluded in the racecourse’s Theatre of the Horse, with vantage points from The Stables hotspot.

Payne’s team are keeping his setlist for The Everest under wraps.

When quizzed on what he will play next weekend, Payne said, “That’s a secret! But maybe I’ll add something I’ve not played live before.”

Payne is expected to drop an album later this year — listen out on October 13 for a taste of those new sounds.
