World Cup 2018: England OUT of World Cup after Croatia score extra-time winner through Mario Mandzukic to break nation’s hearts

ENGLAND are out of the World Cup after Mario Mandzukic’s winner for Croatia in extra time.

Kieran Tripper’s opener in the first five minutes put Gareth Southgate’s side ahead – but optimism evaporated and the Three Lions ran out of ideas as the forward ghosted in to fire them into the final against France.

Supporters up and down the country went wild in the first five minutes thanks to Trippier’s stunning free kick.

But the anxiety grew and grew, before Croatia scored an equaliser through Ivan Perisic’s volley in the second half.

And when Mario Mandzukic latched on to Perisic’s header, the result looked done and dusted.

Southgate’s men will now go on to play for third place against their group rivals Belgium on Saturday, while Croatia will face the French in Sunday’s final.

England fans soak a Croatian in beer as supporters gather in Moscow’s Red Square

Fans in England colours and Southgate-style waistcoats danced congas on the smart shopping street leading into the Red Square.

It was by far the biggest Three Lions party of Russia 2018 – and will get even bigger if the first England team since 1966 reaches Sunday’s World Cup Final against France.

As few as 2,000 England fans have cheered on the team in Russia at previous games after being deterred by high costs and Russian Ultra yob fears.

Well-heeled lionhearts have even stumped up thousands to fly to the game by private jet, aircraft charter specialist, Air Charter Service revealed yesterday.

A spokesman said: “We’ve received hundreds of phone calls this week from fans trying to get to Russia to see England in the semi-final.

“And a handful of very confident fans have booked for the final itself.

“Private jets and larger aircraft are taking a more than 500 England supporters to Moscow for the semi and 16 so far flying in for the final on Sunday.”

They were savouring our best chance in decades to grab football’s greatest prize.

And Southgate’s waistcoat style was at the heart of the soccer party last night as England’s official tailors Marks and Spencer flew in supplies of the £65 suit accessory from London.
