Daniel Cormier denies cheating in order to make weight for UFC world title rematch against Anthony Johnson

Daniel Cormier has denied he cheated in order to make weight for his rematch against Anthony Johnson.

Cormier defends his light-heavyweight title in Buffalo on Saturday night but was 1.2lb over the 205lb limit on Friday.

He stepped off the scales only to return minutes later - and this time he was on the limit.

Cormier had stripped naked to step on the scales and was accused of shifting his weight by holding on to the towel covering his body.

But the champion said: "I didn't want you to see my junk.

"What does doing that do. I don't understand. It's not something I've done before. No, I just wanted to make sure I didn't show my junk."

Johnson, meanwhile, said: "I know he always as a difficult cut.

"Not everyone can fight at 205 and often when they do its not an easy cut.

"I never knew about it until today. I had no idea about that trick."

Cormier defeated Johnson by third-round submission in 2015 to win the vacant title.

He has since defended it against Alexander Gustafsson but saw a rematch against Jon Jones fall through when the former champion failed a drug test last summer.

Johnson weighed in under the limit

And Cormier later told Fox Sports 1: "It was crazy, I weighed in upstairs and I was like ‘Man I’m OK, I’m going to do this,’

“It was harder than normally, but we figured we had it done, the scale was weighing different.

“We went in the back and they informed me that the New York state rule is you can actually re-weigh, and if you don’t make it, you have two hours to actually make the weight, so I started feeling pretty confident after that,” he said.

“I would have made weight then or made it two hours later. “I had a pound when the scale was weighing the way it was weighing, I would have lost a pound in two hours and still made weight.”
