Arsenal have finally moved to open contract negotiations with Jack Wilshere.
England midfielder Wilshere, 25, is due to have talks this week as his current deal expires in 2018.
Wilshere is on a season-long loan at Bournemouth and Arsenal will be desperate not to run the risk of letting him leave on a free transfer in 15 months’ time.
They have also moved to open talks with Kieran Gibbs while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is likely to be next on their list as their deals are both up next year.
It remains to be seen whether Wilshere has a long term future at the Emirates, having recently lost his place in the starting line-up at Bournemouth.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted recently he had not spoken to Wilshere and incredibly the club had not been in touch about the contract.
But that has now changed and moves are now afoot with Arsenal also sweating on the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
They are out of contract in 2018, Ozil has been offered £280,000-a-week while Sanchez looks set to go with Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea keen.
Manchester City are interested in Wilshere while Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe also said they would be keen on signing him.
