It is largely regarded as one of the most stylish events of the year, and sees the great and good of the fashion world come together for one night only.
But Pharrell Williams' fiancee would have no doubt been left feeling more than a little red-faced on account of her somewhat ungraceful exit from the 2013 Met Ball on Monday night.
Accompanying her rapper beau to the star-studded event at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the model and designer was dressed to impress in a chic midnight blue jumpsuit.
Catastrophe! Pharrell Williams' fiancee would have no doubt been left feeling more than a little red-faced on account of her somewhat ungraceful exit from the 2013 Met Ball on Monday night
However, it would seem either one too many glasses of champagne or her towering skyscraper heels became her literal downfall, with the platinum-haired beauty suffering a wardrobe malfunction of epic proportions as she left the prestigious bash.
Emerging from the venue, Helen looked the picture of grace and elegance as she held on to her man's hand tenderly.
But within seconds, her spiked heel became stuck in a cobble, causing her to tumble dramatically to the ground in a blink and you'll miss it moment.

And things were set to go from bad to worse when a burly security guard intervened in the situation.
Although he was attempting to offer a helping hand, he inadvertantly grabbed the material of Helen's jumpsuit and accidentally exposed her right breast.
As the model visibly cringed at the understandably mortifying situation, all cheeky Pharrell could do was look on and giggle at his fiance's misfortune.
Help! Unaware of his girlfriend's predicament, Pharrell chatted away as a look of horror spread across Helen's face
There she goes! But within seconds, her spiked heel became stuck in a cobble, causing her to tumble dramatically to the ground
And Helen's embarrassment was no doubt exacerbated by the fact that the whole incident was played out in full view of the assembled photographers.
Earlier in the evening, Pharrell and Helen cut a stylish two-some as they arrived at the star-studded bash.
The 40-year-old rapper looked every inch the dapper gentleman in a black check-detail suit, which he teamed with a bow-tie, a crisp white shirt and black brogues that were polished to perfection.

Meanwhile, Helen looked glamorous in her midnight blue jumpsuit, which she teamed with a chunky statement necklace and skyscraper heels.
As one of the biggest nights of the year for the great and good of the sartorial world, the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala celebrates the annual opening of the museum's fashion exhibit, with tickets setting back attendees a reported $25,000-apiece.
This year's event carried a 'Punk: Chaos To Couture' theme, with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour hosting the prestigious bash.
