Crystal Palace eyeing Ognjen Vranjes transfer after deciding Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho asking price is too high

Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on AEK Athens defender Ognjen Vranjes.

The Eagles ‘ new boss Frank de Boer is considering alternatives after being priced out of a move for £30m-rated Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho and experienced Bosnia & Herzegovina international Vranjes is one option on his radar.

Vranjes first caught former Ajax boss De Boer’s eye during his spell in La Liga with Sporting Gijon, and Palace have since had him watched in Greece.

The 27-year-old has a £4.5million buyout clause in his current deal but Palace believe his value is closer to £2m.

Vranjes, who has 30 caps for his country, is set to play for AEK in their Europa League qualifier’s second leg against Club Brugge of Belgium on Thursday, and his future will be on the agenda after that.

He is understood to be keen to move to England, where joining Palace would see him reunited with his former Red Star Belgrade teammate Luka Milivojevic.
