Boy, 10, thrown from water slide onto concrete below just 90 minutes after £33m water park opened

A 10-year-old boy was thrown from a water slide onto the concrete below just 90 minutes after the £33million park opened.

Footage of the shocking moment shows the boy sliding down one water-filled tunnel at Saturday’s grand opening of the Emerald Plunge ride.

The slide, inside The Wave water park in Dublin, California, had opened to visitors just 90 minutes before.

As the boy edges closer down the slide, he is forced to the edge and thrown onto the ground.

According to the East Bay Times , the boy was “shaken up” after receiving scratched shoulder.

The park closed the Emerald Plunge ride after the incident, which was captured by a photographer attending its grand opening.

A description on the park’s website says “a severe drop induces thrills in this open air ride.

“Prepare for a rush as you drop three stories at an 80 degree slope.”

Spokeswoman Shari Jackman said they are “re-evaluating that slide”.

Emergency services were not called and the boy can be seen picking himself up from the floor before being helped by a lifeguard.

Dublin Assistant City Manager Linda Smith witnessed the incident and said: “He got up immediately and as any boy would be, he was stunned.

The park has closed the slide indefinitely

“I was worried if he was mentally OK, but physically he just had some scrapes.”

Park officials have reportedly contacted the slide’s manufacturer WhiteWater West Industries for an assessment of the ride.
